Paul Bogaev is a multiple award-winning music director, arranger, conductor and composer. He received his first Grammy Award for Elton John and Tim Rice’s Aida, for which he produced, orchestrated and conducted the Tony Award-winning score. He was also music director on Broadway for Tarzan, Bombay Dreams (receiving a Tony nomination for best orchestration), Sunset Boulevard, Aspects Of Love, Chess, Les Misérables, Starlight Express, Cats and The Music Of Andrew Lloyd Webber with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman.
In addition, Paul was brought in to “doctor” Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, working with Bono and The Edge to improve the musical performance and sound. Bogaev’s second Grammy Award win was as executive producer of the soundtrack to the Oscar-winning film musical Chicago. His other motion picture musicals include Nine, Across The Universe, Dreamgirls, Connie And Carla, and animated features The Lion King, Tarzan, Mulan and The Emperor’s New Groove.
Paul also served as music director of the ABC-TV film musicals Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Annie (earning an Emmy Award) and South Pacific.
He has worked with such stars as Sting, Phil Collins, Elton John, U2, ABBA, A. R. Rahman, Barbra Streisand, Whitney Houston, Brandy Norwood, Beyonce Knowles, Hugh Jackman, Glenn Close, Toni Braxton, Jennifer Hudson, Kristin Chenoweth, Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx, Richard Gere, Queen Latifah, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Daniel Day-Lewis, Penélope Cruz, Marion Cotillard, Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban, Renée Zellweger, Judi Dench, Liam Neeson, Harry Connick Jr., Drew Barrymore, Whoopi Goldberg, Toni Collette, Nia Vardalos, Kathy Bates, Sophia Loren, Kate Hudson and Fergie Duhamel.
Paul wrote and produced songs for a contemporary European stage production of The Three Musketeers, which ran for four years, and recently he recorded The Gettysburg Address, accompanied on his original score by the narration of Glenn Close.
As a symphony conductor, he directed major orchestras around the world during Francis Ford Coppola’s legendary presentation of Abel Gance’s epic silent film Napoléon.
Paul is currently producing and co-composing the Latino based music for the 2018 Broadway production Viva Mixtia. In the summer of 2016, he did a complete modernization of the score of OLIVER! and played the leading role of Fagin as a burned out rock and roller. In the summer of 2017 he updated the music for Peter Pan and played a truly evil Captain Hook. Next on his performance list will be his musical update of The Hunchback of Notre Dame in which he will play the roll of Frollo.
Paul has been appointed visiting artist and lecturer at Princeton University for the course Springsteen in America.
